    Implemented in f1446bf on feat/github-cache.

    • Owners can rename channels from the channel menu or ace rename. The root chat's agent chooses a useful name for a new randomly named channel and maintains a rolling summary, preserving an established name unless explicitly asked to rename it.
    • The details sidebar shows the full summary and updates live. Channel info opens it; dashboard and channel-list previews stay brief. The sidebar also works as a drawer on narrow screens.
    • Names and summaries live in pi's versioned metadata document. Catalog/hosted configuration migrations preserve existing names and history, and lane paths and branch prefixes remain unchanged. Hosted workspace reconnection restores the catalog projection; stale listings cannot undo newer observed metadata.

Validation passed in Ace terminals: formatting/lint, all workspace type checks, production app build, and real local/hosted runtime smoke checks. Real Claude runs exercised natural naming and summary updates, preservation of human names, explicit agent rename, child-chat isolation, and lane/restart persistence. Version 0 and version 1 copies of an existing channel backup retained all 76 original pi entries, continued with a real model, and reopened successfully; source backup checksums stayed unchanged. Local Workers checks covered socket replacement, offline updates, catalog recovery, and process restart. Source UI checks covered rename, empty/full/live details, desktop and narrow-screen menus, and a clean browser error log. React Doctor reported no errors and three warnings (component complexity and an existing GitHub-cache loop).

    Built in Ace

Used Ace Canary's terminals for checks, runtime/model smokes, commit, and push. Codex coordinated the work and edited files; the source Ace UI was checked in a browser because the installed canary predates these changes. External harness integration is tracked in #9 and a built-in file editor in #22.

Closing as completed. Human rename (channel menu and ace rename), agent naming of new channels, and the rolling summary landed in f1446bf (details), which is on main via #89 (an ancestor of 5194bf7). On current main, the channel tool and the versioned ace.metadata document are in packages/channel/src/metadata.ts, rename UI is in apps/app/src/layout/rename.tsx, and storage is described in docs/data.md. This closure rests on that recorded validation and source on main; no new runtime check was run for this audit.
