Before: the site described 2.18.3, while 2.19.0 is what pip install commit-check gets since 2026-10-14. The pre-commit snippets installed 2.18.3 and the changelog stopped there. require_description_grammar was documented nowhere, so the docs-sync test failed against the release. The AI tool lists stopped at Tabby, and the JSON samples had no reason field. The advice for strict spec-only branch types listed five types, but Conventional Branch 1.1.0 also accepts feat, fix and the AI agent prefixes, so following it rejected spec-valid branches such as feat/add-login-page and claude/security-patch.

After: the site describes 2.19.0.

How: every new sample is a transcript from the released 2.19.0. For the strict branch config I ran the 34 cases of conventional-branch's tests/fixtures.json through commit-check --branch. Git cannot create 6 of the names; of the other 28, the default config agrees with the spec on 21, the spec's types with require_description_grammar on 27 (all but develop), and the config on the CC201 page on all 28. That config, read from the page as a cchk.toml, passed develop, feat/add-login-page and claude/security-patch and rejected docs/update-readme, feature/a/b and feature/Add_Login. Under ai_attribution = "forbid", a co-author line for each of the four tools failed CC013, and so did Amp's Amp-Thread-ID: on its own, while people called Jules or Amp passed; a commit authored by google-labs-jules[bot] with no trailer passed. Under disclose, a Factory Droid co-author failed CC014 and CC015. With pre-commit 4.6.2 at rev: v2.19.0, check-tag rejected release_1 on a commit below the tip of a branch pushed with --follow-tags from another branch.

Checks: python -m pytest tests/ -q passes against the released 2.19.0 (10 passed); before this change, test_pinned_revisions_match_the_released_version and test_every_runtime_option_is_documented failed. mkdocs build --strict passes with SOCIAL_CARDS=false, and every new in-page link resolves to an anchor in the built site.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated the guides and reference materials for v2.19.0, including optional branch-description grammar checks and expanded AI-attribution recognition for Amp, OpenHands, Factory Droid, and Jules.
    • Clarified branch-type defaults, tag-check behavior, and JSON and API reason fields for skipped checks.
    • Updated pre-commit examples to use v2.19.0 and added configuration examples for specification-aligned branch validation.

The pre-commit pins move from v2.18.3 to v2.19.0, and the changelog gains
the v2.19.0 entry (2026-10-14) with a Highlights row.

- CC201 and the configuration reference document
require_description_grammar, and CC201 gives the config that agrees with
every Conventional Branch conformance case git can create. The default
type list is described against spec 1.1.0, which includes feat, fix and
  the AI agent prefixes.
- CC013, the AI attribution guide and the blog post name Amp, OpenHands,
Factory Droid and Jules. The guide says that a bot-authored Jules or
OpenHands commit with no trailer passes, since only the message is read.
- The JSON samples and the Python API schema carry the new reason field,
with a transcript of a skip caused by ignore_authors.
- The pre-commit guide says which tags check-tag checks on a push.
